How to stop procrastinating

So I'm no saint, I'm not saying I never procrastinate, I'm Queen of Procrastination. Infact, I'm writing this blog post because I don't want to write an essay.
However, the last few years at university has taught me to knuckle down when I really need to!

Here are a few tips on how I stay motivated and avoid dreaded procrastination...

Turn your phone off

This is difficult to do, but if you put it on do not disturb and in a drawer, you will eventually forget about it and those little buzzes won't distract you when you're mid-flow.

Do all small jobs in one day

I assign myself one day a week for washing, tidying up, writing blog posts etc. It means that I don't procrastinate on other days when I actually need to get my head down and work!

Set regular breaks

If you just tell yourself to work indefinitely, you could end up feeling overwhelmed and avoiding work altogether. Usually my friends and I will go to the library, set a certain time to work until and then take a break to get some food or go for a walk.

Listen to classical music

It doesn't have to be classical, but music without words is a lot better than music with words. I don't always like working in silence, so I usually find a good classical playlist (I actually really enjoy Mozart) on spotify and get my head down. Music with lyrics tends to distract me from the words I'm reading or writing.

Work with friends

Now, this one doesn't work for everyone, especially if you get together at someones house, you'll probably end up chatting all day. I go to the silent study section at uni with my friends, seeing them work hard motivates me to do the same! And then when it comes to taking a break you get to spend it with your friends, put a timer on your phone so you know when to go back to working.

I hope this has helped you a little!
Do you have anymore tips on how to stop procrastinating? I'd love to know!

  2. This was such a helpful post! I love working with friends, it makes the workload seem manageable! I find if I listen to music I'll spend too much time skipping tracks, so classical music is a great idea.

  4. I always listen to instrumental music from movie soundtracks when I need to concentrate. I like working in near silence so sometimes the library doesn't work for me, and I wouldn't be able to work with a friend I'd just get distracted, although I like the idea of meeting up for breaks. I try and get all my small jobs done over the weekend ready for a week of working hard, but I'm the Queen of Procrastination so its a struggle sometimes.
